Following Up is Power

Following Up is Power

During the last three weeks, my routine follow up discipline resulted in MAJOR business and personal achievement.  It wasn’t always like this.  There were times when I made the excuse that I was too busy to follow up.  Dumb excuse.  Be relentless!

Following up with friends and business associates shouldn’t be that difficult.  Nor should it require much time.  I continue to learn that it’s a matter of getting organized, being prepared and then making the effort.

Why is follow up such a profound behavior?

Probably because the folks with whom we follow up are just as busy as we are.  They’re so busy, in fact, that they might have forgotten about us.

Or, they might remember your voice mail or e-mail from last week and then hope that whatever you were calling or e-mailing about would fade into vapor.  After all, if it’s not important to you then why should it be important to them, right?

I found an online definition for follow up: “An action that serves to increase the effectiveness of a previous one, as a second or subsequent letter, phone call, or visit.”  I’d say it sums it up rather nicely.

The reality is that if a task is important – then stay on it.  Be relentless.

What were the MAJOR business and personal achievements?
