Are your employees satisfied with their job?  What about their workplace?  How about their manager?

In today’s struggle to attract and retain the best skilled talent available, you might be interested to know that the top five contributors to employee satisfaction are:

  1. Respectful treatment
  2. Compensation
  3. Trust between employees and senior management
  4. Job security
  5. Opportunities to use skills and abilities

Only 1 out of 3 U.S. workers are engaged in their work and workplace.

Only 1 out of 5 state their performance is managed in a way that motivates them to do outstanding work.

Only 3 out of 10 have the materials and equipment they need to do their work right.

Only 3 out of 10 strongly agree they have received recognition or praise for doing good work in the past week.

Only 3 out of 10 strongly agree that their opinions seem to count at work.

It is simple.  If your employees are not satisfied with their work or workplace, they will look for a job that provides this satisfaction.

You may not be able to address each of the top 5 contributors, but you can certainly do a majority of them.

Saying hello, thank you, and great job are easy and cost nothing except the effort to say them.

Sharing information with employees, whenever possible, builds trust quickly.

Providing opportunities for employees to use their skills and abilities through job rotation or delegated assignments is easily done and benefits everyone involved.

Put a plan together today and review it with your management team.  They are responsible for executing these ideas as much as you are.  We all know how hard it is to find great talent so do everything in your power to retain the talent you already have.
