Are You Having a Bad Hair Day?

Are You Having a Bad Hair Day?

We have all been there!  You roll out of bed and get dressed for work and leave the house with a feeling that something doesn’t feel quite right. You aren’t your self.  Your mood is “blah,” and you blame it on not having a good hair day or your favorite shirt being in the laundry.  Bottom line – you aren’t in a good mood!

“I don’t ‘feel’ like it,” is a common phrase we say to ourselves or to others when we’re tired, not in the mood or don’t like the task at hand. No doubt feelings are important and need to be acknowledged, but at the same time, they often prevent us from taking the action we need to take, when we need to take it, and we end up in a worse mood because we didn’t accomplish what we needed to accomplish!  Or even worse, our mood affects others around us!

One way to be welcomed by your clients is to be in the right frame of mind. Prepare yourself mentally for selling. What do you have to do to get into the right frame of mind to be making a sales contact?
It takes courage to act happy, regardless of your current mood. It’s easy to succumb to your feelings. But remember, your feelings come from your thoughts, and you have the power to change your thoughts. When you change your thoughts, you will change your mood and the way you feel!  Focus on how you’ll feel when you’re finished!  Surprisingly, just doing this once will change your mood and actions the rest of the day! By then, chances are you’ll forget all about not being “in the mood,” and will be well on your way to completing whatever it was you needed to complete and you will feel great!

When you can put yourself in the right frame of mind for selling, you go into every sales contact with confidence. You bring energy instead of drawing energy from the other person. You make a positive contribution and people look forward to seeing you or hearing from you!

It seems that just about every time I answer the phone at ShuBee with “It’s a great day at ShuBee, this is Paige, how can I make you smile today?” I get a response back, “well, you just did!”  The funny thing about that is I can’t answer the phone and say that greeting if I am having a “bad hair day” kind of day!  Those words and a bad mood do not work together!  I actually get more out of that greeting than my clients because I set the tone for each encounter to be a positive one.
