ShuBee Provides Mobile Experience for Residential Service Contractors
July 12, 2010
MACON, GA -
Juniper Research suggests that m-commerce – shopping and paying online by an Internet enabled device such as a smart phone – is a rapidly growing segment of e-commerce. Forecasts predict by 2014 nearly 50 percent of all mobile users will make some type of payment for physical goods on a mobile device. By 2011 it’s estimated as many as one in four online purchases will be made from a mobile device and by 2012 mobile Internet usage will overtake PC Internet usage.
Today ShuBee announced a new website designed specifically for web-enabled mobile devices. Marketing Manager Chris Hood states, “while mobile commerce is still a relatively small portion of our online traffic and sales, we are starting to see an upswing in mobile use at www.shubee.com. We launched this project because want to be prepared for the shift to mobile. Residential service contractors are integrating more mobile technology in their day-to-day business operations and we want to be there for them when they need us in the field.”
The plan to implement mobile commerce at ShuBee was a complex project with usability and familiarity as its focus. Hood explains, “for this project we made several upgrades to our servers, from database optimization and browser recognition scripting to designing the new mobile site to be as lightweight as possible to ensure increased overall speed and page load times. It was important to incorporate all this while maintaining the brand identity from our main website.”
Tech-speak aside, Hood adds, “the feature that is most impressive about the integration between sites is they are seamless and transparent to the user. There are no apps to download to your phone or special URLs to remember. We can automatically detect whether a visitor is using a mobile device or desktop computer and display the appropriate website – similar to the way Facebook and Google do.”
Once the technical details of the project were solidified, Hood states that a “unified ShuBee experience” was the biggest challenge. “The biggest overarching goal of this project was to ensure a unified online experience at ShuBee.com regardless of the type device the client uses. Users already registered online with ShuBee will have the same capabilities to manage account information, order history, wishlists, or use one-click reordering from their mobile device as they’re used to with our main site. New users registering from our mobile site can place an order and access it later from their desktop computer at work or home.”
Regardless how a user visits ShuBee online, they’ll have access to ShuBee’s entire catalog and contents says Hood, “we’ve even made our popular publication The Buzz available to mobile users.”
“I think the biggest benefit from this project will be to the small business owner/contractor still spending some time in the field. Now that contractor can place an order from their phone while on a service call and then track that order when they return to the office from their desktop workstation,” concludes Hood.
ShuBee selected as National Safety Vendor for “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” Season 8
July 1, 2010
(Macon, Georgia) As fans gear up for another season of ABC’s hit reality show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” ShuBee, Inc. is ramping up to help out in the cause as well. The team at ShuBee is excited to participate on Season 8's builds as the National Safety Vendor for the new season. Producers say this season promises even more heart tugging stories with a greater scope of community involvement for each build. ShuBee General Manager Randy Bennett says, ">
“Being chosen as the National Safety Vendor is a huge honor,” Bennett said. "Even more fulfilling for everyone at the ShuBee is having the opportunity to help so many people; from volunteering on the builds to providing the safety tools necessary to complete the projects for the deserving families who benefit from them – we’re thrilled to be in a position to help.”
ShuBee first started working with the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" team in 2009 for Season 7 after being recommend to the producers as a potential safety product supplier by one of their clients who had participated on a build in Season 6. “We are honored to play a role in such a great cause,” Owner/CEO Steve Stone said. “It feels good to know that our customers have so much confidence in us and our products that they would recommend us for something as big as being a part of this show.”
“Working with the team at 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' last year was an incredibly moving experience," ShuBee Marketing Manager Chris Hood says. “In addition to providing the safety products the Extreme Makeover team needed for each build, we were able to send employees and their families to volunteer at the Pine Mountain, Georgia build to provide hands-on help. Being able to witness first-hand the scope and magnitude of these projects; the level of teamwork and dedication from the builders and volunteers; as well as their impact on the families and communities has had a massive impact on the culture of our company. Cheers filled the halls this morning when we made our announcement to the company about our partnership for Season 8,” adds Hood. "I know our team can't wait to help with this year's builds."
For each build on "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," Season 8, ShuBee is providing safety glasses, gloves, waterproof shoe covers, dust masks, earplugs, safety vests, caution tape, Enviroshield™ microporous coveralls and various floor covering products. These products and more were used to launch Steve Stone’s previous plumbing/HVAC business to a multi-million dollar status and led to his founding of ShuBee, with the vision to help guide others in service industry fields to achieve the same level of success.
Since its founding in 2000, ShuBee has grown in the service industry field to be a top provider of both products and consulting to business leaders in every aspect of the service industry field, and its motto, “Satisfaction Guaranteed…No Matter What,” has obviously found favor with its clients. ShuBee Supports the fight against homelessness
April 9, 2010
Burlingame, California – The idea started with a story from a mother to her daughter. This story planted the seed of thought that you can make a difference one person at a time. My New Red Shoes is a way that Heather Hopkins decided to make a change in her city.
More than 5,000 Bay Area school-aged children experience homelessness every night. The average age of these children is only five years old. Homelessness has a devastating effect on a child’s education. Children that are homeless are twice as likely to repeat a grade in school and are significantly more likely not to finish high school.
Hopkins founded My New Red Shoes in 2006 after hearing a story from her mother that changed her life. Growing up in a poor family, Heather’s mother dreaded the first day of school because she was so worried that she wouldn’t have anything presentable to wear when she walked through her classroom doors come September. Her mother’s story made a strong impression on Heather and motivated her to help change the story for other children.
My New Red Shoes helps homeless children put their best foot forward at school through two unique programs. Clothing for Confidence provides homeless and very low-income children with $50 gift cards to major clothing retailers and brand new shoes, offering them the opportunity to celebrate back-to-school season with pride in a way that the isolation of second-hand clothing closets never will. Providing clothing and shoes to homeless youth not only increases their school attendance, it gives them a much-needed confidence boost.
The Kids Helping Kids Youth Leadership Program educates students about local family homelessness and empowers them to become positive change agents, directly and positively impacting their community. Kids Helping Kids utilizes the service learning model to offer a tailor-made curriculum, philanthropic opportunities, engagement in civic matters, and helps students directly solve real-world issues in the homeless community.
April 18, 2010 marks the 4th annual Community Walkathon and Family Festival to Support Homeless Children and this year ShuBee has allied with My New Red Shoes by donating 450 red shoe covers for the participants to wear during their walk through the streets of downtown Burlingame. When asked about the benefit of the partnership with ShuBee, Community Outreach Program Coordinator of My New Red Shoes Rebecca Mayer stated, “We are still a young non-profit. The walk creates awareness and helps us get our name out. The partnership with ShuBee will help us become more visible both in and outside of the community and help us educate people on the reality of homelessness. When people think of homelessness, they think of an older man or woman out on the streets. One of the best kept secrets about homelessness is that the average age of a homeless person in the United States is nine years old.”
ShuBee’s Chief Operating Officer, Randy Bennett, is very proud to be able to help with this cause, “It is so unfortunate that children should have to experience homelessness. They have no control over their circumstances. I believe we should all try to provide these children with the opportunities we have been given.”
Since 2006, My New Red Shoes has clothed over 4,600 homeless children and empowered over 1,500 youth to support their homeless peers. In 2010, they plan to clothe an additional 3,000 children and will continue to expand their education programs. “It’s very important this year with the economy the way it is for us to do as much as we possibly can. Non-profits have definitely taken a blow, but through community support and sponsors like ShuBee, we are in a position to reach out to more children than ever,” Mayer stated.
My New Red Shoes believes in the ripple effect that a heartfelt gift can make in the life of a child who is feeling alone in his or her circumstances and has faith in the power of children to change the world. Planting the seed of compassion is the first step toward creating community change.

1-800-PLUMBING and ShuBee announce alliance to improve plumbing contractor branding
MARCH 29, 2010
SURPRISE, ARIZONA – Alan Cline started 1-800-PLUMBING® in 2002 in memory of his sister, Beth, who was a plumber herself and worked hard to be successful in her career. 1-800-PLUMBING® was created to provide an easy way to remember branding strategy usually not available to independent plumbers. “It is a way to provide small to medium sized independent plumbing contractors a competitive edge with an exclusive number in their territory,” Cline states. “Once plumbers sign up with 1-800-PLUMBING® they have the exclusive use of the phone number in their territory.”
In addition to access to the premiere vanity phone number, 1-800-PLUMBING® licensees also receive a comprehensive marketing guide, full color logo, promotional materials, vehicle magnets, radio jingle and additional branding materials to help the business get started.
The concept behind 1-800-PLUMBING® is a relatively simple one – make the company brand easy to remember to keep potential clients from searching through phone books or other listings that may expose them to competitors. “People don’t need a plumber everyday, that’s the problem. It could be 6 months, a year, two years down the line and they are going to look for a plumber using the yellow pages or by going online.” Cline points out that “one of the concepts with 1-800-PLUMBING®, if it’s branded effectively and used properly, [the customer] won’t be going to the yellow pages or the internet, they’re going to have a magnet on their refrigerator or they’ll just remember 1-800-PLUMBING®.”
Cline’s unique marketing mind has helped him build his company to include businesses from Ocala, Florida to Woodland, Washington. “You need to take that extra step and show your customers how much you really care about them. The same way ShuBee products show the client that the technician and the company care about their home and property enough to protect it, it’s the visual aspect. 1-800-PLUMBING® is here to educate our contractors about what their clients do and don’t want. They want respect and to feel comfortable with the technicians in their homes; they don’t want swearing or dirty uniforms. Our job is to teach them how to be more aware of the customers needs and to see the bigger picture. We are here to help them make a bigger statement.”
Since its inception in 2000, ShuBee has taken a similar approach by using items like professional-grade disposable shoe covers, coveralls and floor protection to enhance the contractor/client relationship. ShuBee CEO and founder Steve Stone states, “The customer only perceives value in what they see. If a contractor comes in to fix a toilet, all the work is on the inside. Our products help demonstrate the care and professionalism the contractor is taking to protect the home owner’s investment.”
“All our products are designed to give [the homeowner] peace of mind and help the contractor land the job,” Bennett said. “The number one complaint from homeowners,” COO Randy Bennett adds, “is ‘they made a mess of my home,’ and unfortunately that’s the general expectation of our industry. By using our products, the contractor can make an excellent impression on their client and convert them to a raving fan. People remember what they don’t expect. We teach contractors how to make those encounters positive to earn repeat business and build trust.”
Cline adds, “sometimes it is hard for plumbers to understand the importance of customer service and marketing your company. You are in charge of making sure that your company is perceived the way you want it to be. A great plumbing job may not be enough to keep the customers coming back for more. Your technicians can go in and do amazing work, but if they have a negative attitude or dirty clothes the client is less likely to remember your company the next time they need service.” Raving fans are born out of being shown that the technicians coming into your home wants to protect your assets and property as much as you do.
“The key to business is people and the partnerships you build along the way. I enjoy working with the people I work with. I am very excited to partner with ShuBee because we have the same philosophy about customer service.” ShuBee has based their business off of customer service and knowing just how important it is to create those raving fans.
“Our partnership with 1-800-PLUMBING® is a natural one,” says Chris Hood, Marketing Manager of ShuBee, “and I believe the benefit of us working together will be evident to both the contractor and the homeowner.” ShuBee will be working with the 1-800-PLUMBING® team to provide branding, marketing and best-practices counseling to licensees through newsletters and available both online and through email subscriptions.
Both 1-800-PLUMBING® and ShuBee, Inc are dedicated to helping their clients establish professionalism and brand identity; 1-800-PLUMBING® through their vanity number and marketing guide and ShuBee with their protective products such as shoe covers and floor protection. Both companies support each others core message to contractors that it is important to show your customers you care. “When you treat people right, your plumbing business will become successful,” Cline states. “I think what will set a good service company apart from a great service company is their customer service.”
For more information on 1-800-PLUMBING®, and how to become a Licensee in your area call 1-800-758-6298 or visit at www.800PLUMBING.com

ShuBee celebrates 10 years of customer excellence
January 11, 2010
Macon, GA – ShuBee, an international safety products supplier for the residential service contractor industries, today announced the celebration of 10 years in business.
Steve Stone started the company with a simple idea: providing shoe covers for the working contractor. The booties then available on the market were medical grade, which were often too small to fit around a work boot and didn’t hold up during the work day, so Stone developed his own line and slowly added additional “sight to gain attention” products to the lineup.
Ten years later, the venture he and business partner Randy Bennett started has grown from a home-based operation expected only to generate “extra fishing money” to a global business offering a comprehensive product line including shoe covers, coveralls, surface protection, gloves, safety equipment, marketing tools and consulting services to clients from Alma to Alaska, from Africa to Australia.
“All our products are designed to give (the clients) peace of mind and help the contractor land the job,” Bennett said. “The number one complaint from homeowners,” Bennett adds, “is they made a mess of my home.”
“We want contractors to use our products, and to know how to use our products,” said Stone. “The customer only perceives value in what they see. If a contractor comes in to fix a toilet, all the work is on the inside. Our products help demonstrate the care and professionalism the contractor is taking to protect the home owner’s investment.”
ShuBee has celebrated many milestones during its ten years of operation, including being selected as a preferred vendor for season seven of ABCs Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, meaning ShuBee’s products will be used on the job sites where the show rebuilds homes for deserving families.
“We’re honored to play a role in such a great cause,” said Stone.
Also in 2009, ShuBee was honored by Inc. Magazine as one of the 5000 fastest growing, privately held US companies, placing the company among the ranks of some of the most successful businesses in America. “We are extremely excited to have received such prestigious recognition,” Stone said. “To be in the same category with such successful companies is a real honor and we look forward to staying on and even moving up the list in the future.”
The company is currently operating out of their fourth location in Macon, Georgia, with additional warehouses in San Jose, California and Denver, Colorado. “We’ve outgrown every place we’ve been,” said Bennett. “We’ve even added additional warehouse locations to house more product and get it to our clients quicker.”
Stone adds, “By being in touch with our clients, we have been able to adapt to their needs and grow with their business. That’s been a huge factor in why we’ve experienced the success we have. We’re really looking forward to the next ten years.”
ShuBee recognized as one of the fastest-growing companies in America
August 13, 2009
Just months shy of its ten year anniversary, ShuBee officials were informed this week of the company’s inclusion in the prestigious Inc. 5,000 for 2009. The honor recognizes ShuBee as being one of the 5,000 fastest-growing private companies in America and places ShuBee among the ranks of some of the most successful businesses in America.
The Inc. 5,000 is a list compiled annually by Inc. Magazine and has served as evidence of the significant accomplishments of entrepreneurial companies. Businesses making the list are “creating jobs, redefining their industries and shaping our world.” Many of today’s most successful U.S. companies achieved their first recognition on a national level when they appeared on the list, such as Microsoft, Timberland and Benjamin Franklin Plumbing.
“We are extremely excited to have received such prestigious recognition,” ShuBee Founder Steve Stone said. “To be in the same category with such successful companies is a real honor and we look forward to staying on and even moving up the list in the future.”
ShuBee and the rest of the 5,000 businesses making the list will be honored at the 28th Annual Inc. 500|5000 Conference and Awards Ceremony on September 23-25, 2009 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
During his more than 30 years of experience in the plumbing and HVAC business, Stone grew his fleet from one truck to 32 and based his approach to business on excellent customer service and a total commitment to professionalism. Today, Steve and the ShuBee team are dedicated to helping other businesses in the residential service industry grow to reach the highest level of success possible by sharing the tools, products and methods which propelled Stone to such great success. The ShuBee team provides clients with tested and proven products, such as professional-grade disposable clothing, protective clothing, safety equipment, marketing tools and their trademarked shoe covers - the same products Stone used during his time in the field. In addition, ShuBee provides personalized consulting services to clients in an effort to share advice on the latest and best ways to set themselves apart from their competition, advise on which products would best meet their needs and ultimately guide them to tremendous growth in their field.

July 14, 2009
(Macon, Georgia) As fans gear up for a new season of ABC’s hit reality show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” ShuBee, Inc. is doing much more than just getting ready to watch Season 7. The team at ShuBee is excited to be a Preferred Vendor for the new season, which producers say will be much different than previous seasons because of its focus on volunteerism and its new campaign, “Get on the Bus.” ShuBee General Manager Randy Bennett says being able to be a part of such a huge effort is great, but what’s most exciting for the company is having the opportunity to help so many people.
“Being chosen as a preferred vendor is an honor,” Bennett said. “What’s even more fulfilling for everyone at the company is having the opportunity to help so many people; from the volunteers working on the builds to the deserving families who benefit from them, we’re just happy to be in a position to help others.”
Since its founding in 2000, ShuBee has grown in the service industry field to be a top provider of both products and consulting to business leaders in every aspect of the service industry field, and its motto, “Satisfaction Guaranteed…No Matter What,” has obviously found favor with its clients. The ShuBee team was excited about the offer and the opportunity to help families in need and didn’t hesitate to get on board.
“We were honored to play a role in such a great cause,” Owner/CEO Steve Stone said. “It feels good to know that our customers have so much confidence in us and our products that they would recommend us for something as big as being a part of this show.”

(Macon, Georgia) In the wake of Independence Day celebrations, the team at ShuBee plans to show its support for U.S. servicemen and women abroad by wearing red on Friday, July 10. The display of support will be practiced by employees in all departments of the company, and one local television station, Fox 24, will be on hand that morning to recognize their participation.
The idea of “Red Friday” has been around for several years. People all over the world have participated to show support for members of the armed forces who are stationed overseas. Locally, many groups have celebrated the day, and Fox 24 has recognized some of those who have shown their support by wearing red and raising awareness about U.S. troops overseas. According to Celeste Smith with Fox24, the station shows its support by highlighting people and groups in the community who recognize “Red Friday.”
“Red Friday is being observed across the United States until the troops come home,” Smith said. “Fox24 is happy to feature proud businesses who [celebrate the day] by their employees wearing red in support of our troops on Fridays.”
Although ShuBee is not the first group in Central Georgia to be recognized for their participation in the grassroots effort, General Manager Randy Bennett says that recognition is not what ShuBee’s participation is about anyway.
“It’s important to show our support for the men and women who are overseas working to protect the freedoms we enjoy as Americans,” Bennett said. “Celebrating the Fourth of July reminded everyone about those freedoms and the cost of having them; we just wanted to take a day at ShuBee to thank the troops overseas and show our support.”
“Red Friday” can be celebrated by any individual or group on any given Friday and does not denote support of the war or any political stance. The gesture is a display of support for overseas troops, regardless of the circumstances under which he or she was deployed. If you or your organization plans to participate in a “Red Friday,” contact Fox 24 at (478) 745-2424.

Study Indicates ShuBee Protective Coverings Pay Off
October 11, 2008
A recent study reveals that homes for sale which incorporated ShuBee Customer Care’s line of protective products received starting bids nearly $7,000 greater than those that did not. A major construction firm tested ShuBee protective products such as window film, flooring films and protective tape. The study was conducted on 26 homes starting March 2005 and was completed in September 2006. Half the homes were protected with the protective products and half were not. These products not only protected the surfaces, but also gave the homes the “new” look buyers desired.
All the protective products stayed in place when the realtor showed the homes to prospective buyers. During the survey, homes using ShuBee protective products received starting bids an average of $6,740 more than homes without. The construction firm reports they made and additional $87,620 during the survey period by using ShuBee protective products. Their total investment in ShuBee protective products is estimated at $478 per home, earning the construction firm a staggering net gain of $81,406 during the 18 month survey period.
